Here you can see how we house our snakes at Quality Bred Boas
|
Our female Boas are kept in large cages measuring 2.80 / 0.70 meters. The males are housed in a 2.00 / 0.55 m. cage.
Offspring is first housed in small enclosures so we can make sure the animals are all feeding well and shedding properly. When they are vet-checked and eating and shedding well, they are sexed and put into larger enclosures with some littermates.
All the cages are equipped with multiple hot spots that can be turned on and / or off depending on the required temperature. We also use dimmer switches connected to timers to regulate the length of the day and to give the animals a more natural day- and night pattern. This way they can enjoy a simulated sunrise and sunset, making them a lot easier to handle than when using just timers cause the snakes tended to jump up every time the lights went on.
As substrate, we use Bark, woodchips or Hemparade on a layer of newspaper. The paper makes easy work when cleaning the cages, and it has another purpose: when wet, the ink on the newspaper turns toxic for small mites and other parasites that could house on your snake

All our cages are self-made out of wood, and even though it has taken quite some time to build them, we’re really pleased about the result. By building your own cage you can fit it precisely in a particular place in your home. Most of the times standard cages are great, but it would’ve been even better if they were just 2 inches wider, or ¼ inch less high. Our cages are made of 18 mm MDF and coated with multiple layers of mordant, making them water resistant. The glass we used is 8 mm thick and all the edges were machine polished.
